I got the opportunity to photograph these photos in a
village inside Takoradi; Ghana-West Africa when I went on a
humanitarian trip with about 200 other students from my school (Ghana
Institute of Journalism). I found this happy children cutting logs with
an elderly man near a small hut. What caught my interest was the
inscription on the building; "Su Ma Wuhu" which literally means "cry for
yourself" or "cry your own cry".
As a young man who has
lived in a city (though from a humble background) filled with
skyscrapers and fancy cars, you would expect that people living in such a
community, deprived of all the glory that comes with living in an urban
community, are not happy with the lives they are living. The state in
which we found this children and the people of the community at large
spoke otherwise.
The name of the village is "ampatano". It
is a fishing community located along the coast of the Gulf of Guinea.
Interestingly, the community is located right in front of Ghana`s oil
field.
